Tariceanu reminded the members of the High Council of Magistrates that the government is the institution that decides on the salary policy and said that favorable decisions on salary rights obtained by the magistrates in court have “unbalanced” the country’s budget.

The official said the court’s decisions regarding salary rights would be observed, but added that the measure will not only “distort” the relation between magistrates and other taxpayers, but also the situation within the legal system.
The president of the High Council of Magistrates, Lidia Barbulescu, explained that legislative irregularities registered in 1999 forced magistrates to resort to justice in order to make the government pay them their overdue salary rights.
