Romanian PM Invites Unions To Talks On Public Sector Wage Hikes

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu invited representatives of the country’s four union confederations to the government’s headquarters Friday to discuss the issue of wage hikes in the public sector.

Over ten thousand unionists attended a protest in central Bucharest Tuesday, demanding decent wages on the World Day for Decent Work.

According to the four confederations, on October 7, workers worldwide demand higher purchase power and observance of employees, safe labor and the resolution of conflicts using dialog and agreements instead of repression.

World unions organize synchronized actions on October 7 and one of the major objectives on unions’ agenda is the rejection of the European Directive extending labor hours.
