Romanian PM Keeps Govt Out Of Dignitary Wealth Law
"In this matter, I would refrain from using an emergency ordinance, because politically I do not want to give the impression that the Government is willing to whiten the wealth of those who obtained it in an unjustified manner," Tariceanu said at the Ministry of Justice activity report conference.
He indicated that such a draft document should be submitted to public debate, as well as to the parliament.
One week ago the Romanian Constitutional Court deemed unconstitutional the law for the statement and screening of the wealth of dignitaries, magistrates, people with positions in management and control and public servants.
The Court was notified by 71 deputies on the unconstitutionality of provision of article I point 2 of the Law amending Law 115/1996 on the statement and control of the wealth of dignitaries, magistrates, people with positions in management and control and public servants, provisions that amended section (1) of article 18 of Law 115/1996.
The Constitutional Court deemed the law unconstitutional with a majority of votes.
The decision is final and binding and is communicated to the head of state, the prime minister and the chairmen of the two chambers of parliament.
