Boc said Monday he informed coalition partners social democrats about his intention to replace Interior Minister Dan Nica and asked them to nominate a replacement within 24 hours.

Geoana said the democrat liberals' proposition for interim interior minister shows the "desperation" of acting President Traian Basescu.

"As we expected, Basescu decided to dictate a political move to the prime minister and the Democratic Liberal Party, as his popularity is on the drop, Geoana said.

He added Boc proposed democrat liberal Vasile Blaga for interim interior minister, who is also the democrat liberals' campaign manager for the upcoming presidential election, in which the party backs Basescu for a second term.

Geoana added Social Democratic Party leaders will meet this afternoon to analyze their next steps.
