Romanian prime minister Emil Boc extended by one day the deadline for the completion of works on the ring road around central Romanian city Ploiesti and wrote, with his pen, on the panel with the economic indicators of the project, that the new deadline is December 1, 2009.
Romanian PM Pushes Back C Romania Road Proj Completion By One Day
Boc did so after noticing the deadline was November 31, a day that does not exist in the calendar.
While he was visiting the road construction yard Thursday, Boc saw the panel displaying the technical economic indicators of the project showed the date 31.XI.2009 as deadline for the completion of works. He turned to one of his aides and asked for a pen, after which he turned the number 1 into a 0, thus turning the date into November 30, 2009.
Several seconds later, Boc told constructors they will get “one day from the government" and wrote on the panel that works are due completion on December 1, 2009.
"There is no November 31, and I hope this is not a bad omen for the project. You know I pay attention to deadlines and this is why I’ve noticed the panel. Anyway, I will give you one day from the government, until December 1,” Boc told the constructors.
Works for the widening of the ring road in the western area of Ploiesti began on November 2007. The investment cost EUR30 million, funds allotted from the Ministry of Transport, while works will consist of the widening of the road from two to four lanes, over a distance of 14 kilometers and the setting up of five road passages.
