Romanian PM Says Lower VAT On Food Is Populist, Irresponsible

The head of the employers’ association in the food industry Romalimenta, Sorin Minea, urged the government in a news conference Sunday to lower the value added tax on food products, to hinder soaring food prices.

Minea said that by discarding the practice of a flat VAT, Romania would align to practices applied in other European Union countries. He added Romania’s 19% VAT is among the highest in the world.
