Romanian Police Disbanded Network Of Currency, Credit Card Forgers
Romanian prosecutors made 29 searches Thursday morning in Craiova, southern Romania, Constanta, southeastern Romania, and capital city Bucharest to disband a criminal network specialized in forging currency and credit cards.

The organized crime department DIICOT said in a press release that investigations aim at disbanding three criminal groups operating in Craiova and coordinated by Jean Marin Mihaila, Nicolae Drivan Florin, Ionel Calin, Iustin Covei, the son of a magistrate from the Craiova Court of Appeals, and Petre Halanei.
The members of the three criminal organizations are accused of having financed and coordinated several criminal enterprises involving credit cards in Austria, Jordan and Tunisia.
According to the chief of the department fighting criminal organizations in Constanta BCCO, Aurelian Pavel, two searches were made in Constanta and a man suspected to be involved in this case was detained. He was sent to Bucharest where will be heard by the prosecutors within the department investigating organized crime.
Pavel added that, during the two searches in Constanta, prosecutors found several credit card reading devices and other devices used to falsify money and credit cards.
In Craiova, prosecutors made 28 searches and confiscated several laptops, computers and other devices used to falsify credit cards and money, as well as several luxury cars belonging to the members of the criminal groups.
At the moment, 17 people are detained to be heard by the DIICOT prosecutors and ten others were arrested abroad with the help of the authorities in Austria, Jordan and Spain, police said. Prosecutors will ask the court for 30-day arrest warrants for the detained.
The criminal group disbanded on Thursday by the police fighting criminal organizations is made up of 30 people, the police also said.
