Romanian Population Decreased By 5,181 People In May 2010
Romania’s population has kept its downward trend and decreased by over 5,000 people on the month in May 2010, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) said Friday.

In May 2010, Romania reported 16,076 alive newborns, 67 less than in April 2010, and 21,257 deceased, 827 less than in April, the INS said.
According to INS, the negative natural growth, namely, the surplus of deceased compared to the surplus of newborns, triggered a decrease in population by 5,181 people in May, while in April this year, the country's population decreased by 5,941 people.
Romania reported 11,008 marriages in May, 2,265 more from April, and 2,929 divorces, 335 less from April.
On the year in May, the number of alive newborns was lower by 2,173 and the number of deceased was higher by 243.
In May 2010, population shrank by 5,181 people, compared with May 2009 when it shrank by 2,765 people.
The number of marriages was lower by 1,607 and the number of divorces was lower by 485 on the year in May, according to the INS.
