Romanian Population Decreased By 5,941 People In Apr 2010

Romania's population decreased by 5,941 in April 2010, since there were around 16,143 newborns and 22,084 deaths, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

"In April 2010 the population decreased by 5,941 people, while in April 2009 the decrease reached 4,170," the institute said Wednesday.

According to the INS, in April 2010 there were 16,143 children born (9.2 live births per thousand citizens), 1,905 less than in March, and there were 22,084 deaths (12.5 deaths per thousand citizens), 1,114 fewer than in the previous month.

"The number of live births was lower by 1,226 in April 2010 compared to the same month of 2009, while the number of people who died was higher by 545 compared to April 2009," the INS said.

The number of children aged below one who died in April 2010 reached 157 (9.7 one-year olds per thousand live births), down from March (11.9 deaths per thousand live births), and 29 fewer than in April 2009.

Also, the number of marriages registered in April 2010 saw an increase to 8,743 (5 marriages per thousand citizens), 5,130 more than in the previous month. There were 3,264 divorces finalized (1.85 divorces per thousand citizens), 73 more than in March.

Also, the number of marriages held in April 2010 was higher by 2,792 compared to the number of marriages held in April 2009, while the number of divorces was higher by 106 compared to the same interval.
