Romanian Post Office Board Member Resigns, While News Questions His Appointment
Business daily Ziarul Financiar wrote Friday that Gogu, who was appointed to the postal service board by the communications minister, holds stock in a company controlled by the minister’s wife.
A ministry press release said Gogu’s appointment to the board was legal and his resignation was for personal reasons.
Gogu owns 14.64% of UM-Soft, a company that does business with several public institutions, including local authorities in Bacau county, and the Pension House. Mioara Vreme, the minister’s wife, owns the majority stock in UM-Soft.
The Communications Ministry owns 75% of the postal company’s shares and controls six of the nine seats on its board. The remaining shares are held by Fondul Proprietatea.
