Romanian Post Office To Lay Off 1,500 Employees In ’08 – Official
Romanian minister of communications Karoly Borbely said on Tuesday that the Romanian Post Office, “mammoth company” with over 35,000 employees intends to lay off 1,500 employees in 2008.

He said that the consultancy and financial services contract to restructure the company in view of privatization, signed between the communications ministry and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants was developed all throughout 2007.
The ministry official said that the restructuring plan would be applied in 2008.
Borbely said investments with respect to the company will increase in 2008, and added two new sorting stations, one in Bucharest and the other in Cluj will be created. He added 700 new vehicles will be purchased.
The minister said the company would not be privatized, at least not this year.
The Ministry holds, as state representative, a 75% stake in the Romanian Post Office.
The Romanian Post Office is currently organized in 10 regional directions, 41 county structures, three specialized units and one branch, currently owning over 35,000 employees. Each regional direction manages county offices and regional transit centers..
