Romanian Pres Blasts Education Min, Unions Over Sluggish Reform
Romanian president Traian Basescu said Thursday that education minister Ecaterina Andronescu resorts to unacceptable compromise in the reform of education, prodded by electoral interests, while unions are the main element blocking the improvement of the education system.

Basescu said the reform is blocked by the politicians and unions to equal extents.
He added the unions are the central element in the blocking of the reform and they fight the enactment of the laws resulting from the Miclea Commission report.
In addition, the president said Andronescu, to avoid bothering the voters of her (Social Democratic) party, makes unacceptable compromise in the reform of education.
He went on saying the education minister and the unions will even block the curriculum reform, for which Andronescu has taken responsibility.
