Official sources told MEDIAFAX that U.S. President George W. Bush will meet with Romania’s Basescu, as well as with Tariceanu. The conditions for the meeting have yet to be set, but fact is that Bush will be accompanied, in the NATO summit, by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, as well as Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Basescu and Tariceanu have also set bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who will be accompanied in the NATO summit by the head of Berlin diplomacy, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as Franz Josef Jung, German Defense Minister.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown – who will be accompanied by Defense Minister Des Browne and the Chief of the British Army General Staff – will also hold a meeting with Tariceanu, as well as with Basescu.
Afghani President Hamid Karzai, whose delegation will be formed of 45 people, has also programmed bilateral meetings with Tariceanu and Basescu. According to the temporary agenda, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has also set a meeting with Basescu.
The exact dates and locations of the bilateral meetings, as well as their number, will be set in the following weeks.
The summit might constitute an occasion for a meeting between the Romanian and Moldovan Presidents, but the only fact currently known is that Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin will come accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Andrei Stratan and Defense Minister Vitalie Mihai Vrabie.
