Romanian President Calls For High Turnout At Parliamentary Elections

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Thursday urged the citizens to cast their vote at the parliamentary polls due November 30 so that the future lawmakers will represent their will and be able to take steps to counter the economic crisis.

He said sociologic polls forecast a weak turnout at the parliamentary elections and called upon Romanians to express their preferences.
 
“It is for the first time when the political class answered to Romanians’ wish to vote people and not party lists,” Basescu said referring to the newly introduced uninominal voting system.
 
“I would say we need a Parliament that represents Romanians’ will and not their indifference,” the head of state concluded.
