"I want to assure you that Romania will continue to observe all its commitments: to NATO, to the European Union and those related to our partnership and bilateral relation,” Basescu told Bush.

Basescu also referred to the U.S. position toward the Black Sea.

"I would like to thank you for the attention your administration has granted the Black Sea region. I would like to thank you for your concerns about the security of the Black Sea region and your concerns to guarantee democracy in this region. Also, Mr. President, I would like to emphasize the confidence the United States has shown toward the Romanian Army by letting it command troops in Afghanistan. We know the U.S. seldom lets their troops commanded by other nations,” Basescu said.
