Romanian President Attends Opening Of Summer Season In SE City Of Mangalia
Hotel owners estimate nearly 20,000 tourists will spend the four-day weekend, starting with Labor Day, May 1, at the seaside.
Mangalia mayor, Zamfir Iorgus, said Basescu will be staying at the protocol villa in Neptun seaside resort until Sunday, May 4.
Basescu attended the opening of the Mangalia Tourist Seaport alongside Iorgus, tourism minister Ovidiu Silaghi and Constanta County prefect Danut Culetu.
Basescu stressed the importance of this seaport, adding it should “compete” against the other seaside resorts in Romania, not those in Bulgaria.
Ever since he was elected president in December 2004, Basescu has spent May 1 at the seaside.
