Romanian President Boasts Fair Play In Relation With Local Press
Basescu stressed he has never intervened against any journalist or their writings, arguing the press should set its own limits with respect to language, topics and attitude toward the state.
Basescu attends Friday the opening of the Congress of Romanian Journalists Everywhere, held in southwestern town of Drobeta Turnu Severin. On August 8, Basescu will arrive in Kladovo, Serbia, to attend the second part of the congress.
The first edition of the International Congress of Romanian Journalists Everywhere, which focuses on "Language-Message-Liberty," is organized by the International Forum of Romanian Journalists, in association with the Department for Relations with Romanians Everywhere (DRRP) within the Romanian Ministry Foreign Affairs and with the National Television and the National Radio Company.
Invitations to the event were sent out to nearly 100 media representatives from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia, Albania, as well as Parliament and Government officials, politicians, diplomats, experts and representatives of the civil society in Romania.
The event on August 8 in Kladovo will also be attended by representatives of the Romanian community in Valea Timocului and Voivodina.
