Romanian President Congratulates New U.S. President Elect
Romanian President Traian Basescu addressed a message Wednesday congratulating the United States’ new President elect Barack Obama and wishing him all the best in carrying out his mandate, the website of the presidency informed Wednesday.

According to the message sent by the head of state, the successful campaign promoted by Obama attracted keen interest of Romanians and of nations throughout the world, and consolidated people’s faith in American democracy, the presidential administration said in a statement.
Obama’s victory comes at the height of the strategic partnership between Romania and the United States of America, the statement read.
“Our dialogue, essentially focused on politics and security, has been fruitful recently due to the increasing number of American investments in Romania and to bilateral trade agreements,” the statement said.
The head of state highlighted the importance of the transatlantic partnership for Romania, in its position as member state of North-Atlantic Treaty Organization and of the European Union.
American democrat Barack Obama Tuesday was elected president of the United States of America, and became the first African-American citizen in the position of head of state of the United States of America.
