Romanian President Consults Parliament Parties On Education Plan

The only party that declined to attend was the far-right Greater Romania Party, or PRM. PRM leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor said last week the party would decline any kind of invitation from the president, whom he criticized for having recommended Belgrade to talk to Pristina, although Romania doers not recognize independent Kosovo.

Mircea Geoana, leader of the leftist opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, said social democrats would attend the consultations. The party also said in a press release Tuesday it would not sign the Education Pact proposed by the president unless 7% of gross domestic product is earmarked for the education system.
