Romanian President Traian Basescu on Tuesday hailed the success of the United States in killing Osama bin Laden as “the beginning of the end” and a great historic moment for Arab countries.

Basescu on Tuesday met with U.S. under secretary of state Ellen Tauscher, who said bin Laden's death brings comfort to the families of victims and survivors of the 9/11 events.

U.S. President Barack Obama announced in a speech that he has authorized the operation that killed bin Laden in Pakistan on Sunday.
