Romanian President Hit Intelligence Service Car Sunday

The car hit by Romanian president Traian Basescu Sunday belonged to the Romanian Intelligence Service, or SRI, and was on a NATO summit related mission, SRI spokesman Marius Bercaru told MEDIAFAX Tuesday.

Basescu was involved in a minor car accident in capital city Bucharest, with no injuries or major damages reported, the presidency said in a statement Sunday.

It said Basescu’s car hit another vehicle in the left rear side while driving to the presidential Cotroceni Palace.

The head of state was alone in the car.

Basescu reported the accident to a police precinct in the area, the statement said.
