The parliament in Pristina on Sunday declared the independence of the Kosovo province from Serbia, despite fierce opposition from Serbia and Russia.
The official reaction of Romania has so far been expressed by the spokesman of Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, who said the country maintains its point of view toward Kosovo.
Ministry spokesman Ilie Banica told MEDIAFAX Sunday that Romania’s position towards Kosovo remains unchanged, adding adding the minister would make a statement on the matter on Monday.
Basescu said recently after a meeting with French president Nicolas Sarkozy that Romania will be a loyal partner to the European Union in the decisions to be made regarding Kosovo, but will not recognize the independence of the province declared unilaterally.
