Romanian President Pushes For A Modern Irrigation System As Of 2010

Basescu also spoke about Romania’s ailing agriculture and stressed the country’s current irrigation system is obsolete.
 
The head of state said his recent visit to Israel gave him the chance to see a country that lies in the desert exporting 70% of food products because it uses high-tech devices in the agriculture sector.
 
He also said that a recent European Union evaluation indicates that Romania has the capacity to feed 80 million people, yet, it currently imports 70% of the food necessary to feed its 22 million people. 
 
Basescu met Tuesday, June 2, in Jerusalem, with a group of Israeli businesspeople and told them that one can make “successful investments” in Romania in the food industry, agriculture and tourism sectors, assuming they will not vanish away.
