Romanian President’s Mother Dies At Age 81

Elena Basescu, the mother of Romanian president Traian Basescu, died Monday at the age of 81, friends of the family said.

She suffered from breast cancer and had undergone surgery.

Elena Basescu was 81 and lived in the southeastern Romanian port city of Constanta, where the head of state often visited.
