Basescu added it is to be seen how Moldovan authorities understand Romania's offer for help.
The president also said the direct help the country can offer to the Republic of Moldova will be one of the main subjects to be discussed during his visit to Chisinau.
Basescu said the Republic of Moldova needs not only political support, but also Romania's direct help, adding Romanian authorities already have a point of view on the issue and now the Moldovan standpoint is expected.
Basescu said that after a "democratic regime" took power in Moldova, the country's orientation toward the European Union was made clear, adding negotiations of the Agreement of association with the EU are underway.
Basescu said the main purpose of his visit is the cooperation between the two states so that the Republic of Moldova can get closer to the EU and eventually join the European community.
The president said his visit also concerns the 12 bilateral agreements whose negotiation was stopped by Moldova's former regime, adding negotiations must continue so that bilateral relations can acquire new legal perspectives.
Basescu and a delegation of six ministers will be on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova Wednesday and Thursday.
The delegation that accompanies Basescu is made up of Interior Minister Vasile Blaga, Economy Minister Adriean Videanu, Foreign Minister Theodor Baconschi, Transport Minister Radu Berceanu, Tourism Minister Elena Udrea and Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu, state secretary for relations with Romanians abroad Eugen Tomac, lawmakers Viorel-Riceard Badea and Tudor Pantiru and Iasi County Council president Constantin Simirad.
Basescu will meet with Moldova's interim President Mihai Ghimpu who will grant him the Republic's Order.
The Romanian president will also participate in a common meeting of the two states' delegations and meet with Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca.
Basescu said recently, during a meeting with ambassadors accredited to Bucharest, that Romania's "closest to heart" project is upholding the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union, adding this is way his first visit in his second term as president will be to Chisinau.
