Romanian Journalist Sorin Rosca Stanescu on Monday said he filed legal action against President Traian Basescu over slander.

Basescu said in a television show on June 16 that Rosca asked him to intervene and stop the investigations against businessman Dinu Patriciu, CEO of Romania’s second largest oil company Rompetrol.
 
“A false statement, which brings me serious prejudices,” Rosca said.
 
Rosca asked for moral damages of 1,000 lei (EUR1-RON4.2181). In addition, Basescu should be compelled to publish the court decision at his own expense in six central dailies and to pay the legal costs of the trial.
