According to the Presidential Administration, the meeting will discuss the plan to provide equipment for the Romanian Army between 2019 and 2028, the use of armed forces sent on military operations and missions abroad in 2019, and also the council’s activity schedule for next year.
It also added that the meeting will also tackle “other current themes for national security”.
Defense Minister Gabriel Les stated on Tuesday, regarding the meeting, that he will “very possibly” present a briefing regarding the recent Russian-Ukrainian incident at the Azov Sea.
Russian forces captured three Ukrainian military ships last week, following an incident near the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black Sea with the Azov Sea.
Ships of the Russian FSB opened fire on the Ukrainian ships, stating that they ignored warnings and entered Russian territorial waters without authorization. All 24 crew members of the three ships were arrested.
Following the incident, Ukraine instated martial law in its border regions with Russia for the following 30 days, and denounced the conflict as a “Russian aggression”.
