Romanian President To Address Public On Wednesday

Basescu made this announcement during the swearing-in ceremony for the new foreign minister, Cristian Diaconescu. The president wished Diaconescu luck in his „impossible” mission to communicate that „Romania has the strength to carry on.”

Basescu did not comment on the protests, except to say that „Romanians are right to be dissatisfied” and to criticize certain leaders of the opposition: former Romanian president Ion Iliescu, Social Democratic Party leader Victor Ponta and Liberal Party leader Crin Antonescu. Basescu said their message is similar to that of the former president of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin.
