Basescu sent a letter Thursday to Senate chairman Nicolae Vacaroiu and lower house speaker Bogdan Olteanu, urging them to call an extraordinary parliament session.
Earlier this week, the Parliament delayed on lack of quorum the vote on prosecutors’ request to probe bribery allegations against former prime minister Adrian Nastase and former transport minister Miron Mitrea. The vote was postponed until at least September, as the Parliament has its summer recess.
The activity of the Court of Accounts, the institution that manages public expenditure, is blocked as the mandates of its management expired on May 31. The head of state also asked for a reexamination of the law on the Court of Accounts, which he considers has several deficient aspects.
