Romanian President Vows To Designate New Prime Minister If Negoita Cabinet Falls

Basescu said he doesn't want to defy the Parliament by designating Negoita again, if his cabinet gets a no-confidence vote in Parliament, stressing he will designate a new prime minister, if the case may be.

He said the head of state has the obligation to designate the country's prime minister and stressed that, if the case may be, he will designate a new prime minister immediately, given the country's stringent need to have a government.

Negoita on Monday submitted to the Parliament a Cabinet list of fourteen ministries led by some of acting democrat liberal ministers, independent Gabriel Oprea and other politicians.

Romania is currently run by the minority democrat liberal government ousted in a no-confidence vote mid-October and the country's chances to have a full-power government before presidential elections on November 22 are slim, considering a Parliament majority of 65% is set to reject Negoita's proposed Cabinet.
