Romanian Prosecutors Seized EUR300M In Assets In 2010
Romanian prosecutors seized assets of over EUR300 million in 2010 and the number of people indicted for tax evasion and contraband increased 125%, Romania’s prosecutor general Codruta Kovesi said Monday at the Public Ministry’s activity report meeting.

Kovesi also said the number of people indicted on corruption charges increased 40% last year.
"We are aware these numbers don't yet reflect the true size of criminal activity in the country but they do prove an obvious change in the activity of prosecutors," said Kovesi.
The activity report meeting is attended by President Traian Basescu, Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu, High Court of Justice vice-president Aida Popa, High Council of Magistrates president Horatius Dumbrava and the head of the Romanian Intelligence Service, George Maior.
