Romanian Public Administration Unionists Mull Pushback Of May 31 Strike – Union Leader

Marica said that, pending the date the Government seeks the confidence vote in Parliament, the strike will either take place on May 31, or three days later, on Monday.
Public administration unionists will not strike indefinitely, but they will show their support of the education unionists' protest through a one-day strike.
Unionists in several public sector fields, including teachers, who are determined to strike indefinitely, have announced they will go on a full-blown strike starting May 31.
Social democrat lawmakers and union representatives have agreed to synchronize the parliamentary debate schedule with the upcoming social protests, social democrat leader Victor Ponta said Friday. According to Ponta, the social democrats support the unions' stance against the recently announced public sector expenditure cuts.
Ponta added that social democrat lawmakers will file a no-confidence motion if the Cabinet dares seek a confidence vote to adopt the austerity measures.
The Government is working on drastic public spending measures in a bid to tighten the country's budget deficit at 6.8% of GDP in order for the International Monetary Fund and other international institutions to release a new installment of a EUR20 billion rescue loan agreed last year.
Spending cut announcements have sparked waves of social unrest and mounting tension and most social categories have been protesting in the street and calling on the government and president to resign.
