The wages of Romanian public servants could be frozen in 2011 as well, unless at least 4% of the sector’s employees, or around 65,000 people, are laid off, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

"Given our commitment to gradually reduce staff expenses, we can see that unless 4% of employees are laid off, salaries in the public sector will continue to be frozen in 2011. Even inflation indexing will be impossible," the sources said.
Therefore, out of the total number of public employees of 1.36 million, 65,000 could be laid off.
