Romanian Public Sector Wages To Only Be Set Through Laws, Govt Decisions – Draft

The document says the staff of public institutions financed entirely from their own revenue will keep in 2010 the base salary and other wage rights they had in December 2009.

The merit salary will be included in the base salary for people who received it in December 2009 for up to one year since the date it was first granted last year; as of 2010, this bonus will not be awarded to anyone new.

In case the salary set in the unitary wage law is lower than that set through laws or government decisions for December 2009, a transitional compensatory amount will be granted, according to the document.

The decision stating the manner in which salaries will be paid in 2010 may be adopted in the Government meeting on Wednesday, Labor Ministry state secretary Valentin Mocanu said Monday. He explained the decision clarifies the unitary wage law's application.

Mocanu pointed out that the draft decision covers the entire public sector and does not provide for layoff measures.
