“The last thing Romania would do is take a loan from the IMF,” Basescu said Friday, adding that Romania’s current account deficit might be covered from EU funds.
“We could collaborate with the European Union, the World Bank, or the European Investment Bank,” he said.
Romania’s Prime Minister Emil Boc said last Friday that the Government has not taken yet any decision regarding a potential agreement with IMF, and that it is analyzing different approaches to finance the country’s budget deficit.
A mission from the IMF will come to Romania end-January on a regular visit to evaluate the economic situation and discuss the new government’s policies, IMF representative in Romania Juan Fernandez-Ansola told MEDIAFAX last week.
