Romanian Public Servants Urge 50% Wage Hike, Threaten Protests
Protest actions targeting a 50% increase in salaries starting January 1, 2009 will be established within the National Council of the National Alliance of Sed Lex State Employees’ Unions on October 3, which will be attended by all representatives of state employees’ unions (labor and labor inspection, environment, finance departments, customhouses, mayoralties, county councils, prefect offices and social assistance), Marica said.
Marica stressed the salaries of public servants must be increased the way salaries for staff in the education system were increased by 50%.
The Romanian Chamber of Deputies Tuesday approved unanimously Ordinance 15/2008 amended by the leftist opposition Social Democratic Party stipulating a 50% wage increase for staff in the education system.
