Thus, the new gas prices delivered to population will be of 104.41 lei (EUR1=RON 3.6639)/MWh for E.ON Gaz Romania, up 11.6% from the current price, and of RON104.70/MWh for Distrigaz Sud Bucuresti, up 12.5% from the current one, ANRE also said.

"ANRE analyzed all gas price hike requests of natural gas suppliers, mainly those of Distrigaz Sud and E.ON Gaz Romania, which asked the authority to adjust the regulated prices to the real acquisition costs of imported natural gas, considering the natural gas import price is seen at USD480/1,000 cubic meters in the third quarter, up 30% from the USD370 /1,000 cubic meters mirrored in the current gas prices," the statement also read.

The gas price hike is a prerequisite for the normal functioning of the domestic market, in order to ensure the continuity of natural gas supply and to make winter gas storages.

The country’s two largest gas distributors E.ON Gaz and Distrigaz Sud requested ANRE to increase gas prices delivered to population by some 25% as of July 1.

E.ON had initially requested a 19% increase of prices on April 1, one percentage point higher compared with the 18% request made by Distrigaz Sud. The companies revised the gas prices hike demand to 25%, on the increase of international gas prices.

The last price increase of natural gas delivered to population was made on February 2, when prices rose 8.5%.
