Tariceanu will propose Anton Anton, head of the National Research and Science Authority, to replace Adomnitei.

"Cristian Adomnitei was dismissed from the position of education minister. The prime minister proposes state secretary Anton Anton as his replacement," government spokeswoman Camelia Spataru said.

A week ago, Romanian lawmakers passed a law increasing teachers’ wages by 50%, which triggered protests from all public sector employees, demanding similar raises. Adomnitei himself voted in favor of the law.
