Voicu was accused of influence peddling after he claimed and received money from certain businessmen investigated in criminal cases to intervene with the police and magistrates.

Prosecutors show Voicu also intervened in the case of social democrat vice-president Maria Schutz, indicted for fraud in January 2008.

Goana allegedly mediated a meeting between Voicu and Schutz in 2006, when the latter was under criminal investigation.

Voicu was placed under arrest on March 23 for fraud and influence peddling. Two businessmen and a judge were also placed under arrest for corruption in the same file but are currently investigated at large.
