Romanian Senate Commission OKs Decree Regarding Expropriations For Passageway In Bucharest

The commission for public administration in the Romanian Senate gave the go-ahead to government emergency decree 12/2009 allowing the start of expropriations for the construction of the Basarab Passageway in capital Bucharest.

The commission adopted a favorable report for the decree unanimously.

The draft law approving the decree will be debated by the Senate in plenary session, and the final decision belongs to the Chamber of Deputies.

Late February, the government declared the passageway of public utility, to allow expropriations in the area to continue at the request of the capital city’s general council.

The passageway costs a total 469,599 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2924) and works completed and paid for so far amount to RON133,790.

The Bucharest mayoralty said works on the passageway could be completed in about 16 months. Works started in March 2007.
