The Senate adopted unanimously the proposition which amends the audiovisual law 504/2002.

Initiators said the proposition targets improvements in the general climate and gives the audience a chance to have a balanced perception on day-to-day realities.

The Senate is the decisional chamber in the matter.

However, the act is pending President’s approval.

The Romanian Press Club already challenged the decision, and requested President Traian Basescu not to promulgate it, arguing the measure will breach the right to free speech.

Premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu is also to send a letter to the head of state, asking the act be rejected.
