Romanian Senators Drafted 2009 Budget, Eye More Money Than Fin Ministry Proposed

The Senate’s secretary general, Dan Vasiliu, said Tuesday that senators complained about the poor air quality in the meeting hall, adding they would buy high quality devices.

Moreover, senators plan to buy an additional 15 air purifiers for an estimated RON150,000 and one of them will be especially installed in the office of the Senate‘s chairman.

They also plan to buy new cars, for RON44,400 each, as well as three minibuses worth RON600,000.

Vasiliu said they would also buy 40 laptops and replace their mobile phones with new ones.

The 2009 state budget draft stipulates the Senate will supposedly receive RON153.398 million, 18.52% higher than the limit proposed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which recommended a budget of RON129.43 million.

Wage costs will amount to RON76.908 million in 2009, and also include the 2008 bonus fund.

The draft will be launched for debate in the Senate’s plenary session on Monday and, once approved, it will be submitted to the government to be included in the 2009 state budget.
