Romanian Social Democrat Exposed As Former Communist Secret Police Officer

The Romanian authority investigating the archives of the former communist secret police, CNSAS, decided Tuesday that social democrat Doru Giugula was a collaborator of the secret services Securitate.

Giugula, a lawyer and the former head of the social democrat group in Bucharest’s general council, appears in several files of the former communist police, where it is mentioned he was an officer of the Securitate, people within CNSAS told MEDIAFAX.

According to the website of Romania’s leftist opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, Giugula is a vice president of the party’s commission for arbitrage and moral integrity.
