Romanian Social Democratic Party Prepares To Win Presidential Elections
The social democrat leader said that for his party, the European Parliament elections “reconfirmed its status as the main force on the Romanian political scene.”
He added that the Social Democratic Party gained almost 10% compared to the EP elections in 2007 and that he hopes, once the final results come in, to have an even greater lead on its “rivals”.
“The elections today also tell us something worrying: voter turnout was extremely low and this shows that Romanians are increasingly unhappy and disappointed politics in recent years,” Geoana said.
Geoana also remarked that the way Romanian President Traian Basescu “used his child” in his election campaign was “embarrassing.”
Exit polls placed the social democrats and democrat liberals, part of the country’s ruling coalition, at roughly 30%, set to get 10 seats in the EP each.
