Romanian Social Democrats Give PM Ultimatum To Reinstate Sacked Interior Min

Romanian social democrats, part of the country’s ruling coalition, decided Monday they will continue to support sacked social democrat Interior Minister Dan Nica and gave democrat liberal Prime Minister Emil Boc 24 hours to reinstate him, party spokesman Bogdan Niculescu Duvaz said.

"Prime Minister Emil Boc has 24 hours to reconsider his decision," Duvaz said, adding that the party breaking the ruling alliance's protocol will be held responsible for throwing the country into a political crisis.

Social democrat leaders met Monday, after Boc announced Nica's dismissal from the position of interior minister, and considered reaffirming their support for Nica or switching to opposition.

The prime minister informed social democrats Monday morning of his decision to sack Nica and gave them 24 hours to nominate a replacement.
