Romanian Social Democrats Might Meet PM To Talk ’08 Budget Amendments – Sources

Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD) president Mircea Geoana, might meet with Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu and economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian, to discuss the state budget for 2008, before the document reaches Parliament vote, social democrat sources told MEDIAFAX.

Geoana might once again meet with Tariceanu and Vosganian, to discuss several amendments, proposed by the social democrats, which were not accepted by the liberals in the debates within the budget-finance commissions, according to the quoted sources.

The sources mentioned that the meeting might take place at the end of this week or the beginning of the next one, depending on the state of debates in commissions on the 2008 draft budget.

Tariceanu will attend, Thursday, in Lisbon, the signing of the EU Treaty, while Friday he will be in Brussels, at the European Council winter works.

The social democrats intend to hold the talk with the Prime Minister before the Parliament vote on the draft budget, and they anticipate that commission debates might be concluded before next week. On the other hand, some of the party leaders do not reject the possibility of vote postponement until the beginning of 2008.
