Romanian Social Democrats Oust Bucharest District 2 Mayor From The Party

Vanghelie said the council decided to oust from the party other six members and mentioned the name of social democrat Adrian Nastase's former advisor Anca Alexandrescu that is now in the presidential election campaign stuff of Bucharest general mayor Sorin Oprescu who is running as indepentent candidate.

Vanghelie said Bogdan Georgescu is the new executive president of PSD Bucharest, replacing thus Ontanu.

Georgescu was vice-president of Romanian privatization authority AVAS when the Government was ruled by social democrats.

Romanian social democrat leader Mircea Geoana told Bucharest District 2 mayor Neculai Ontanu he will be excluded from the party if he does not withdraw his statement according to which he supports President Traian Basescu for a second term, social democrats told MEDIAFAX Wednesday.

The sources said Geoana told Ontanu he must immediately withdraw his statement according to which he supports Basescu for a second term as president, adding elections for a new executive president of the Social Democratic Party's Bucharest organization and for members in the PSD Bucharest Council will be held Wednesday.

The social democrat mayor of Bucharest's District 2 said in a press release Wednesday that he supports acting President Traian Basescu for a second term as head of the state.

Ontanu left the Social Democratic Party in March 2006 citing disputes within the party but returned in 2007, when he was also elected executive president of the Bucharest branch.
