Romanian Social Democrats Ponder Protocol With Liberals –Sources
The social democrats plan to present the protocol, which falls in agreement with article 36 of the law regulating political parties, to President Traian Basescu within the consultations on Friday at the presidential palace to let him know that the two parties formed a parliamentary majority.
The same sources said the two parties agreed on such a protocol before the parliamentary elections on November 30, but the liberals did not want it to go public, especially since the two parties failed to reach an agreement for the premier office.
According to the agreement before the elections, the future Prime Minister should be neutral, social democrat leader Mircea Geoana should take the helm of the Senate, while liberal Calin Tariceanu should run the Chamber of Deputies.
Beside talks with the liberals, the social democrats are still open to talks with the democrat liberals.
According to the same sources, if the agreement with the democrat liberals fails and the latter form a minority government, then, a part of the social democrats who insisted on a governing formula with PDL might back this minority government.
