The president ensured the inhabitants of Tamaseni, a locality situated in Neamt county, severely damaged by floods, that the Government would provide them with funds to rebuild their homes.

The president said he would supervise the reconstruction works himself, and would return to the flooded localities in northern Romania.

"One sees the image of the disaster only after the retrieval of the waters,” Basescu said.

He added that the number of casualties of this year’s floods compared to that of 2005 was much smaller, due to the intervention of the Emergency inspectorate, of the police, of the Army and of the local administration, who did their job “as well as they could”.

He said the next step the government must take after saving lives is to manage the reconstruction of the damaged areas.

The president told the mayor of Tamaseni that local authorities must stay in touch with their community so that the people do not feel that nothing is done to help them.
