The Romanian Social Democratic Party’s National Executive Committee on Monday passed a resolution through which the party pledged continued support for Mircea Geoana as Senate chairman, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

The sources said branch leaders and party vice-presidents voted in favor of the resolution restating support for Geoana as Senate chairman.

After losing the social democrat internal elections on February 20, Geoana wrote on his blog that he would agree to step down as Senate chairman should such a decision be taken by the party's leadership.
